As you help to restore someone, be careful lest you also be tempted! Galatians 6:1-3.

on Wednesday, 01 May 2013.

We are all vulnerable to temptations! As you try to save a fallen comrade from sin, watch out or you too will be tempted! People that think they are some ‘saviour’ are opening themselves to the devil’s attack. Paul in Galatians 6:3 said, “If anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself!” If a brother is overtaken by any trespass, you who are spiritual must restore him in a spirit of gentleness! But watch out or you too will fall! (Galatians 6:1).

Far too many Christians that try to help others have found themselves drawn into a trap of the enemy because of not being cautious! It does not matter how mature our Christian lives would be; we must use wisdom and discernment to protect ourselves. Remember, those that come needing help, they come with all kinds of spirit – you watch out!

Now, we must bear one another’s burden! (Galatians 6:2). But do it wisely!

Men should counsel men! Women should counsel women! Otherwise, have your wife or your husband present as you counsel the opposite sex. It is wisdom for men not to touch women’s bodies but have a lady present to lay hands on them and you say the prayer! Same to women counsellors – keep their hand off the men! Such wisdom will save you from any manipulative tactics of the devil!

Be prayerful at all times. Be Biblical! In other words; always use the Bible to back your words!

Never counsel people in the dark! Go inside a good light up place. Sexual and violent cases; make sure you have someone with you. Be graceful and be truthful! Don’t betray the trust of the people for consulting you – keep things confidential! Make them as comfortable as possible to open up themselves to you! If they lie, don’t get abusive! Be calm and listen to their story.

Point the people to Jesus – not to you! Remember, you are not the Saviour! Don’t try to impress people by colourful words and the using of you as an example! The truth is: we all fail! You can share your testimony, but that testimony is a confirmation of what Jesus has done in your life! Don’t give the people the impression we are perfect and never have any problem!

A word of encouragement can save many that have fallen from grace! Reassure to them your love and care. You can invite them to have lunch or dinner with you. Be prepared to pay the cost of saving a brother!

There is a special blessing for those that win others to the Lord! Those who turn many to righteousness are like stars forever and ever! (Daniel 12:3). Go and help someone see the light today! Cheers!
